While I'm Working...

Oliver comes to me and says, "Mommy, Percy time out."

Oliver is really escalating his imaginative play.

Mine Do It!

Oliver's big thing these days vacillates between "I do it!" and "Mine to it!" He has to buckle the top buckle of his car seat. Sometimes he has to crawl (slowly and deliberately) into a chair by himself. Very often we hear the phrase, "I do it!!!" We know that if Oliver doesn't get to accomplish his self-assigned task, he will cry cry cry.

A couple of nights ago I awoke around midnight to terrible wails from Oliver, who was sobbing and screaming: "I do it!!!! I do it!!!!" in the middle of the night--inconsolably. I have no idea.

Pretend

Yesterday I got out the farm for Oliver to play with--which is actually a series of buildings and attachments, several sets put together--and spread it all over the living room floor. I sat down at my computer and heard him playing happily a few feet away. Soon he came to me and said, "Look, Mom! A train!" He had linked three pieces together and was scooting it around the house, train-style. I think this represents a new phase of development--using one thing to stand for something else as he pretends.

Baby

Oliver notices babies everywhere. Now even objects are "babies." There's a "mamma" boat, and a "baby" boat. Big and little, everywhere, are mamma and baby.

How 'bout...dis!

This weekend Oliver started a new saying (which sounds a lot like something he might have copied from his sister). He said it over and over again, about nothing in particular, with the requisite pause placed just so: "How bout...dis!" "How bout...dis!" "How bout...dis!"

Counting

Oliver loves to show off his counting, noting pairs of things, "two eyes." He counts more in general, especially up to five if one counts along with him in a book.

Fall Images

Here is a collection of images of Audrey and Oliver this fall. They were at an arch (by our house), the county fair, a mission, a Japanese Tea Garden, our table, and an old hotel (on base). The password is "audollie."
